In 1888 Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin went to live in the town of Arles in the south of France. They lived on the town square in a house painted yellow, Vincent’s favourite colour.
They planned to found an artists’ colony but the experiment ended in disaster just before Christmas when Vincent cut off his ear and gave it to a young prostitute friend of his.
The Yellow House tells the story of these dramatic events in a cycle of 12 songs with a linking narration.
Written and composed by Harris Smart and performed with Chris Wilson and Rhonda Robertson.
